The New Zealand Vegetarian Society is a non-profit organisation formed in 1943.
The Society is affiliated with the International Vegetarian Union, and the Australasian Vegetarian Association and has Branches and Centres in New Zealand.
Our aims
- To spread the principles of vegetarianism and its immense advantages.
- To bring to people’ attention the cruelty to animals and destruction of the environment caused by a non-vegetarian way of life.
- To assist those who have recently become vegetarians, or who are considering doing so.
- To promote friendship amongst vegetarians and publish and distribute literature.
- To stress the necessity for peace and harmony among people and ALL other living creatures.
Membership Offers
- Quarterly magazine.
- Access to postal library service, bookshop, and cassettes to borrow or buy.
- Meetings are held and newsletters distributed in some centres.
- For the first five months a series of informative letters regarding a vegetarian lifestyle are sent to new members.
There are two kinds of membership. FULL where abstention has been for three months or more; and ASSOCIATE where this has not been achieved, but a person wishes to co-operate with the aims of the Society.
