Calling All Veggies!
The Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Vegetarian Society is a membership organisation dedicated to serving the needs of its members and promoting vegetarian and vegan lifestyle within the Greater Wellington Region. The active voluntary committee are involved in a range of projects including: organising monthly events/socials for all vegetarians and vegans in GWR, giving talks to schools on vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, running a mentoring scheme for those wishing to go veggie or vegan, hosting the vegetarian society stall at public festivals etc.
Come and find out more about how you can join and get involved with their various projects at their AGM/pre-dinner drinks.
Get Involved, Make a Difference, Join the Committee
They can only do what they do through volunteers giving their time to make it happen.
Being on the committee means work and having fun.
They meet four times a year at each other’s houses, share a meal and plan what needs to be done. They attend the AGM once a year.
They have a big social calendar, mentoring scheme, educational programme, attendance/presence at festivals etc.
Committee members take on specific projects, that they are interested in, and work on these in between the meetings.
There are some specific roles or offices – President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary that require some additional responsibility and input. Having been on a committee before will help someone taking on these roles.
A good way to start off is becoming a general committee member and helping out with the projects and helping the officers with their work.
To be on the committee you must be a current member of the Vegetarian Society and be proposed and seconded by two members. It is a good idea to have a short statement on why you want to be on the committee and what you’d like to do and what skills and/or ideas you can bring.
Treasurer – some experience in this role previously would be good. Character references maybe required due to the level of responsibility.
